HexagonOS is an open-source and freely distributed GNU/Linux distribution based on the popular Ubuntu Linux operating system, yet designed to be light, fast, modern, and intuitive for everyone by using a highly customized lightweight Xfce desktop environment.
Boot options, supported architectures
HexagonOS is supported only on 64-bit systems and comes with a standard boot menu that lets users start the live system without installing anything on their personal computers, start the live system in compatibility mode in case your graphics card isn't detected, as well as to run a memory test and boot the installed operating system.
Highly customized Xfce desktop environment
Aiming to be a light and fast, yet modern operating system for everyone, HexagonOS uses the lightweight Xfce desktop environment by default, which comes customized and beautified with a dock at the bottom of the screen, a cool dark desktop theme, gorgeous icon theme and wallpaper, making HexagonOS easy to use and enjoyable.
Pre-installed apps
Among the pre-installed apps available in HexagonOS, we can mention the Mozilla Firefox web browser, VLC media player, GNOME Paint drawing software, SimpleScreenRecorder screen recording app, Synaptic package manager, GDebi package installer, UBackup user backup tool, as well as all the standard utilities from the Xfce desktop environment.
Uses Ubuntu's software repositories
HexagonOS uses Ubuntu's software repositories for installing all the apps and tools you'll ever need on your journey with this GNU/Linux distribution. It's currently based on the latest LTS (Long Term Support) release of Ubuntu Linux, Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver), which will be supported for five years, until year 2023.
Bottom line
We find HexagonOS a pleasant Linux-based operating system that most of you should enjoy from the first day. It's definitely not a bloatware OS, so you are free to install all the apps you need or customize it the wait you see fit. We recommend HexagonOS for those in need a simple, light, fast, and modern computer operating system.
